President Ghani off to Qatar, Kuwait

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani left Kabul for Kuwait and Qatar on Monday.

The presidency, Arg, said in a statement Ghani would lead a high-ranking government delegation for Kuwait to offer pay homage to the Late Emir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. It added the Afghan leader would later visit Doha where he is set to meet Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Emir of Qatar; Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz al-Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar and a number of other senior officials of the country to discuss efforts for deepening Afghanistan-Qatar bilateral relations and mutual cooperation in various areas.

According to the official statement, during the visit, President Ghani is scheduled to address a gathering at Doha Institute where Qatar’s prominent diplomats, lecturers, academicians and students will attend as well.

A member of the Taliban delegation in Qatar, Abdul Haq Waseeq told Salam Watandar the group has no meeting scheduled with the Afghan president.

The President was accompanied by First Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib, Chief of Staff for the President Mohammad Shakir Kargar, General Director of the Administrative Office of the President Dr. Fazel Mahmood Fazly, Acting Minister of Higher Education Abbas Basir, Acting Minister of Education Rangina Hamidi, Acting Minister of Economy Karima Hamid Faryabi, Member of the Lower House Ajmal Rahmani, Member of the Upper House Abdul Latif Nahzatyar, and Ambassadors of Afghanistan to Kuwait and Qatar.
