FAIZABAD (SW): Local officials in Badakhshan have confirmed that the Taliban have overrun the Zebak district in the province.
Sultan Mohammad Yaftali, police chief for the district, has confirmed that the Taliban have entered the district center, and the security forces are battling them from a distant location. Badakhshan remains one of the restive provinces in the northern parts of the country. Yamgan and Warduj districts of the province are also under the influence of the Taliban.
Earlier on Friday, the Taliban announced their yearly spring offensives. In a statement on their website, the militants warned the citizens to stay away from military and civilian installations and individuals associated with the government to save their lives.
