KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s right-arm fast bowler Dawlat Zadran is among the top 90 cricketers picked for the forthcoming T20 Global League in South Africa.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the name of the South African T20 league to debut in the last quarter of 2017, with eight participating teams consisting of local and international players. The T20 Global League – and its associated logo – were unveiled to much hype and international sporting industry excitement at the Wanderers Cricket Stadium this evening.
Haroon Logart, Chief Executive of the CSA, said on the occasion that this is is a major step forward for a potential T20 league cup. Logart expressed optimism about the success of Global League in the presence of top class cricketers.
Up to 90 international players from 13 cricket playing nations would be up for grab at the auction on August 26 and 27. The list includes Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Dwayne Bravo, Branden McCullum, Lasit Malinga and Kevin Peterson among a number of other world class players.
The list includes 34 players from Pakistan 15 from England 11 from Sri Lanka 12 from West Indies 4 each from Zimbabwe and New Zealand while three each from Australia and Holland while one each from Afghanistan Scotland and Hong Kong.
Each of the eight teams in this event comprising of 18 players can have five foreign players.
While Jacques Kallis, who coached Kolkata Knight Riders this season in the IPL, will manage Cape Town Knight Riders, Durban Qalandars will have Paddy Upton as their coach. Upton worked with the Delhi Daredevils team in IPL 2017.
Stephen Fleming, who was the coach of Rising Pune Supergiant, will handle Stellenbosch Monarchs while former South African Test captain Graeme Smith will coach Benoni Zalmi.
Former South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher will coach Nelson Mandela Bay Stars and Russell Domingo, South Africa’s national coach until the recent Test series against England, will coach Pretoria Mavericks.
