Young woman physically abused, killed in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): A young woman has been physically abused for years and later shot dead by her husband in Baghlan province, mother of the victim has said.

According to Izat Bibi, her daughter Kulsoom was already engaged to another person, but a local warlord from the Khost district of the province forcefully abducted and married her five years ago. “During all these years, she was physically abused, later shot dead and her body kept to decompose”, she told Salam Watandar in the provincial capital Pul-i-Khumri.

She added the culprit lives in the Wagho village of the district. Izat Bibi added to escape the torture Kulsoom escaped to her sister’s home, but armed men associated with her husband abducted her from there, and kept her in prison before shooting her multiple times. According to the grieved mother, Kulsoom’s father collapsed upon hearing this news. She added the warlords are threatening her as well.

Mohammad Asif, brother-in-law of the victim, said the officials were informed that such incident was eminent, but no action was taken to stop it. Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the accused, but to no avail. Spokesman for the police said he needed some time to respond to questions about this case.

Khalil Rahimi, chief of Khost district, said the area where this incident occurred falls under the control of the Taliban. Khadija Yaqeen, director for women affairs in the province, said in this regard the police forces have no control in this area.
