Yosufzai named as new chairman ACB

24/07/2019

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday selected Farhan Yosufzai as new chairman for the Afghanistan Cricket Board.

In an official statement, the Presidency announced the replacement for former chairman Azizullah Fazli. Separately, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has also announced that Yosufzai has taken charge from Fazli. The outgoing chairman welcomed the new chairman at the ACB headquarters in Kabul.

The new ACB chairman has a master’s degree and was based in U.K. It is important to note Fazli took charge only ten months ago from Atif Mashal.

No reasons have been stated for the replacement of Fazli, but he was under severe criticism following poor performance by the national team in the ICC World Cup and subsequent differences at the ACB. During his tenure, former captain Asghar Afghan was replaced with Gulbaddin Naib days ahead of the mega event that led to divisions in the team.

Yosufzai is the fourth chairman to take charge of the ACB in the past four years.
