MONITORING (SW) – Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has expressed support for ceasefire in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

President Ashraf Ghani spoke on the phone with Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan this afternoon, Sediq Seddiqi, spokesman for the president said. In a series of tweets, he said both sides talked about the ties between the two countries, the peace process, and Pres. Ghani emphasizing on ceasefire.<\/p>\n

“In this call, Prime Minister Khan stressed that his country supports a ceasefire for enduring peace in Afghanistan. President Ghani extended an invitation to Prime Minister for a visit to Afghanistan which was accepted by the Prime Minister”, he tweeted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, addressing the 75th session of the UN General Assembly through video link, the Pakistani premier urged the Afghan leaders to seize the "historic" opportunity to achieve reconciliation and restore peace in their country.<\/p>\n

"The only way forward was and is a political settlement which involves the full spectrum of Afghanistan’s political actors, “he said, adding that Islamabad fully facilitated the process that culminated in the US-Taliban peace agreement in Doha in February last.<\/p>\n

"Through the Intra-Afghan Negotiations that commenced on the 12th of September, they must work out an inclusive, broad-based, and comprehensive political settlement. The process must be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned, and without any interference or outside influence," Khan further said. <\/p>\n
