KABUL (SW) – Presidential spokesman, Sediq Sediqqi has said efforts for peace would yield no results if the Taliban do not agree on a comprehensive ceasefire.<\/p>\n

He said this during a press conference on Saturday. Sediqqi said the Afghan people and the government reject the proposed 'reduction in violence' by the Taliban as an 'ambiguous term with no legal or military parameters'.<\/p>\n

The Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman, Suhail Shaheen, said on Friday that the group’s deputy head, Mullah Baradar Akhund has met with the US negotiating team led by Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad “to discuss the signing of the agreement and the related ceremonies”.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Taliban are ready for peace talks with the government and reduction in violence.<\/p>\n

The Reuters reported that the U.S. urged the Taliban to announce ceasefire, but the insurgents did not approve of the idea.<\/p>\n
