MAIMANA (SW) – The skyrocketing dowry rates in a number of Faryab districts has caused grim concerns among the youth wishing to get marries here.<\/p>\n

The problem is particularly grim in Andkhoy, Qarmqol, Qirghan and Khan Charbagh districts where dowry prices range from $ 9,000 to $ 25,000.<\/p>\n

Ehsan Bek, a resident of Andkhoy district of Faryab, told Salam Watandar that due to this, many young people go to the neighboring countries through illegal routes to earn the required money.<\/p>\n

Khudadad Darwesh, a civil activist in Faryab, said this has even forced some youngsters into drug addiction. Maria Nouri, head of the provincial Women's Affairs office, said in this regard that the inflated dowry prices are not the only problems for young men, but girls too are suffering due to this.<\/p>\n

Gulyar Ahmad Lutfi, head of the provincial Hajj and Religious Affairs department, said that in collaboration with the Ulema Council, the dowry price has been fixed at AFN 300,000.<\/p>\n

But, it seems that the decision of the Hajj and Religious Affairs and the Faryab Ulema Council has not yet been implemented.<\/p>\n
