DOHA (SW) – Participants of the intra-Afghan dialogue in Qatar told Salam Watandar a wide range of issues were discussed on the first day in Doha.<\/p>\n

Assela Wardag, a participant of the Afghan delegation, said Potzel Markus, German Envoy on Afghanistan, and Mutlaq<\/em> bin Majed Al-Qahtani, <\/em>Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar opened the dialogue in Doha. “We have taken the initiative for this dialogue to pave the way for peace in Afghanistan. Talks cannot be enough. Dialogue has to turn into meaningful negotiating process. Afghanistan‘s future can only be determined by Afghans”, the German envoy tweeted.<\/p>\n

The first speaker at the meeting was Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, a representative of the Taliban delegation, who spoke on issues such as poppy production and the role of women in government and development projects.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, representatives from Afghanistan mainly spoke on issues like cease-fire and reduction of violence. Afghan delegates also called for the establishment of a joint committee to reduce violence.<\/p>\n

According to Aseela Wardak, the Taliban's representatives on the role of women said that women have the right for education and to choose their spouse in line with the Islamic teachings.<\/p>\n

Siddiqullah Tawhidi, another participant of the Afghan delegation, told Salama Watandar that the talks have been promising. According to him, efforts are underway to sign a memorandum tomorrow to ensure the continuation of bilateral talks between the two sides. He said talks went smooth despite differences.<\/p>\n
