KABUL (SW) – Over 70 per cent population of Afghanistan lives in areas under the government control, officials said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Matin Baig, head of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, said this at a press conference in connection with the government’s accountability drive. He said people living in the Taliban-controlled areas are also approaching public offices for delivery of services. He said only 20 districts across the country remain under the Taliban control.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion, Ahmad Zaki Sarfaraz, mayor of Kabul, said the municipality in the capital city collected a record AFN 4 billion worth of revenues in the past one year alone. He said a dedicated 409-member team has been tasked to prevent land-grabbing in the city. Mayor Sarfaraz added work is underway on maiden map to locate addresses in all 22 districts.<\/p>\n

The municipality officials added over 37,000 booklets for the yearly municipality tax have been issued in the city.<\/p>\n
