GHAZNI (SW) – A mortar shell hit a public health facility in the Gelan district of Ghazni province killing at least one staff member, an official confirmed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Zaher Shah Nekmal, head of the directorate of public health, told Salam Watandar the incident took place last night. He said initial reports suggest the health center was hit during a security operation in the area.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the Taliban, foreign troops have been blamed for the attack and killing of hospital worker, Sidiqullah. The Taliban also claimed a number of residential homes were also destroyed in this incident.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a member of the provincial council, Naseer Ahmad Faqiri, has claimed at least eight security forces of the NDS also got killed in this while.<\/p>\n

Spokesman for the provincial administration, Arif Noori, has said in this regard that ‘by mistake’ a check post of the Afghan Local Police came under fire on the main Jaghori – Gelan highway in which eight security forces got killed and four more got injured.<\/p>\n
