KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Engineer Hamidullah, the provincial head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have pocketed around 60 million afghanis from power utility revenue in the past 2 years in the areas under their control in Kunduz province.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Taliban in every quarter, collect on average 7.5 million afghanis from 14 thousand customers of imported electricity from Tajikistan.<\/p>\n
“The Taliban have been collecting DABS’ revenue since 2015, some quarter reaches 7 to 8 million afghanis”, informed Hamidullah.<\/p>\n
Abdul Hamid Hamidi, the provincial police chief, stated in this regard that the security forces have launched military operations in areas where Taliban can generate income. He assured the operations will continue till the Taliban are ousted from income generating areas.<\/p>\n
“Currently 2 military operations are ongoing in Imam Sahib and Dasht-i-Archi districts of the province”, added Hamidi.<\/p>\n
Earlier, security officials in response to the Taliban's collection of electricity money claimed that operations to clear the area from the Taliban ended successfully, and they assured that the residents were no longer obligated to pay the bills to the insurgents.<\/p>\n
But Zabiullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban, said the group collects money from customers for the restoration of power lines, electricity supply to the villages, and the defense of the power stations. According to him, so far the total amount of money collected is close to 3 million afghanis.<\/p>\n
