KABUL (SW): James Mattis, the Defense Secretary of United Unites, landed in India on Monday night. He is meeting his Indian counterpart to discuss Indo-U.S. defense ties.<\/p>\n

Although the U.S. Department of Defense officially did not say anything about the role of India in Afghanistan, a number of Indian media have speculated that James Mattis will call on India to send troops to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

According to the Indian Express, James Mattis would meet his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit K Doval and also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is the first Cabinet-level visit to India under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

As U.S. Defense Secretary visits India, the Pentagon in a statement has praised the Indo-U.S. ties and called India’s role in south Asia effective.<\/p>\n

It is a debutant visit of a U.S. secretary of the Donald Trump administration.<\/p>\n
