FIROZKOH (SW): A number of women interested in driving in Ghor province have been rising since a year.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Yaqoob Haidari, the provincial traffic director, said that in the previously only 2 female driving licenses were registered, but the number of female drivers has reached to 10 this year.<\/p>\n
A number of women who drive in the city of Firozkoh, the provincial capital, in a conversation with Salam Watandar, said the motivation to drive is due to a reduction in violence against women and progress in women’s economy.<\/p>\n
Anjila Sharifi, one of the female drivers, urged the provincial traffic directorate to organize driving classes for women so female drivers are well-acquainted with traffic rules.<\/p>\n
Anisa Ghayoor, another female driver, wished the provincial traffic directorate to treat women and men equally in issuing driving licenses.<\/p>\n
But, these women drivers also complaint of men’s harassment on the roads. A number of women's rights activists in Ghor, while claiming that increasing female drivers in this province are considered as a positive, said that disrespect to women causes harassment for female drivers in the patriarchal society.<\/p>\n
Noria Navid, a women activist, stated to solve female harassment on the roads, the activists have programs.<\/p>\n
Khalida Mahtab, the head of cultural affairs at the directorate of women’s affairs, said despite the fact that women are facing physical violence such as stoning, whipping, being burnt and dozen other torture issues, these women are struggling against violence. <\/p>\n
The number of female drivers is increasing in Ghor as women constantly have been complaining about conditions of work in the province.<\/p>\n
