KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Ulema Council (council of religious scholars) on Thursday denounced Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, the Pakistani religious politician, for his pro-Taliban views.<\/p>\n
In a public rally in Pakistan earlier this week, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman backed the Taliban’s call for exit of foreign troops from Afghanistan, and said peace is not possible without it.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan Ulema Council challenged the Pakistani politician for a public debate in the presence of Islamic scholars on the merits of his stand. Malawi Mohammad Qasim Halimi, spokesman for the AUC, addressing a press conference on Tuesday said Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman does not possess knowledge and authority to issue religious fatwa (religious decree), but he acts as a politician toeing the command of Pakistan’s intelligence agency against the people of Afghanistan. “Fazal-ur-Rahman is living in a country whose court system is based on the English common law system, not the Islamic system, while as in Afghanistan the laws are based on the Islamic rulings”, added Halimi.<\/p>\n
The spokesman further added that the Pakistani Maulana is issuing fatwa (religious decree) for justification of suicide bombings and killings of innocent Afghan citizens which is un-Islamic and inhuman.<\/p>\n
The AUC also denounced the words of Malawi Mubashir from Takhar province who had said women are “mentally deficient”. The Council said there is great deal of respect for women in Islam.<\/p>\n
