KABUL (SW): The targeted assassination of two employees of the Anti-Corruption Justice Centre (ACJC) a couple of days ago is seen as a serious threat to this newly established body.<\/p>\n

On Monday, two employees of the (ACJC) were shot dead by unknown gunmen in the capital Kabul. The ACJC is one-of-a-kind legal institution that exclusively deals with high-level corruption in Afghanistan. Last year, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani signed a decree establishing the ACJC. It has specialized police, prosecution units and courts that are designed to be independent from political and other pressures in detecting, investigating and prosecuting corruption.<\/p>\n

Syed Hussain Fakhri, head of the ACJC, has warned fighting corruption would become difficult if employees of this body felt unsafe. He said mafia networks and powerful individuals are under the watchful eyes of the ACJC, and that is why they are attacking this organizations’ employees.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Khan Zaman, head of anti-corruption organization, stressed that currently a small number of corruption cases are under investigation which has invited the wrath of corrupt people. He stressed the government should not back off, and instead intensify its anti-corruption campaign.<\/p>\n

On its part, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has vowed to take swift and tangible action against the perpetrators of Monday’s attack. Najib Danish, spokesman of the MoI, has said investigations into the attack are underway.<\/p>\n
