JALALABAD (SW): At least 16 pro-Daesh rebels have been killed in the past 24 hours in the fresh Shahen-25 Offensives in the Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Hussain, spokesman for the police headquarters in the province, told Salam Watandar the offensives are underway in the Kot and Haska Maina districts. He added the militants have been killed in the ground and air raids on the pro-Daesh rebels’ bastions in these districts. Spokesman for the Afghan National Police (ANP) in the province further said two hideouts of the pro-Daesh rebels have been dismantled and nine suspected militants have been arrested.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Hussain further said four villages have been cleared from the rebels. The pro-Daesh rebels have not commented in this regard so far.<\/p>\n

The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) with the US air support launched this fresh military operation against the pro-Daesh rebels on Sunday. Back then, Major. Sher Aqa Faqiri, spokesman for the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 201-Shaheen Corps, told journalists in Jalalabad the Kot and Haska Maina districts would be cleansed of the militants in the first phase, and the surrounding districts would be explored for further action afterwards.<\/p>\n

Last week, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said in a statement that the ANSF and the NATO forces have killed a senior Daesh commander named Qari Munib in a joint operation in Nangarhar. Munib was said to be responsible for facilitating a series of deadly attacks in the capital Kabul, including the suicide bombing in July 2016 against Hazara Shiites that killed more than 80 people and injured hundreds.<\/p>\n
