{"id":83802,"date":"2017-01-17T08:49:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-17T08:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swn.af\/lib\/refugees-send-remittances-worth-7-billion\/"},"modified":"2017-01-17T08:49:13","modified_gmt":"2017-01-17T08:49:13","slug":"refugees-send-remittances-worth-7-billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swn.af\/archive\/refugees-send-remittances-worth-7-billion\/","title":{"rendered":"Refugees send remittances worth $ 7 billion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"314\" src=\"\/Uploads\/2017\/jan\/17\/afghan2.jpg\" width=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation&nbsp;(MoRR) said on Tuesday Afghans residing abroad have sent some 7 billion dollars worth of remittances in the year 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Said Hussein Balkhi, Minister for Refugees and Repatriation, said every year Afghans residing abroad send money to their families in the country, but last year this amount soared to 7 billion dollars, mainly through &#39;Hawala&#39; which is the informal money transfer system.<\/p>\n<p>He cited World Bank (WB) figures that estimate 3 billion dollars worth of remittances are sent to Afghanistan on yearly basis. According to the minister, despite the fact that the &lsquo;Hawala&rsquo; system is illegal, it is still helping the local economy.
