KABUL (SW): Ghulam Farooq Gharzai, a university lecturer and employee at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was shot dead by Hekmatyar led Hizb-i-Islami, almost 23 years ago, somewhere in Char Asyab, a district approximately 11 km away in south of the Kabul city.<\/p>\n
Farooq’s son Jawid with a painful lament narrated that he did all he could to find his father but after two years of soul-shaking wait, he came to know that his father was shot dead by Hizb-i-Islami’s gunmen.<\/p>\n
Charged with political activities, Ghulam Farooq Gharzai was first imprisoned by People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) until the end of Dr. Najib’s rule for 11 years. Jawid narrates that his father was just an employee at ICRC when killed by Hizb-i-Islami. <\/p>\n
He added that his father was not a political activist by the time HI targeted him. Jawid said that his father was a philanthropist who was seeking to help his needy countrymen.<\/p>\n
Farooq’s friend who has witnessed the incident claims that Hekmatyar himself murdered Gharzai. Eye witness narrates that Gulbuddin asked Gharzai to give information on political situation in Kabul but he either resisted or had no knowledge of the political affairs.<\/p>\n
Farooq’s death is the most tragic incident in Jawid’s life. Jawid said that Gulbuddin Hekmatyar is a terrifying war criminal who has killed number of innocent civilians in 1990s. He said that with the peace deal signed, the government has ‘assured’ Gulbuddin with impunity, but victims’ families would never forgive him.<\/p>\n
