He added that the proposed match would be played under floodlights. Kazimi noted that the Indian side has acknowledged the offer, and are awaiting security clearance.

It was some seven decades ago when the Indian football team visited Kabul on 23rd August in 1941 for a friendly football match. The Afghan side lost that match to the guests 1-3. In the nine international encounters between the two so far, India has won seven, one has been drawn and only one, a more important one, the final of South Asia Football Championship was won by the Afghans.

The friendly match on the occasion of Nawruz is part of the New Year celebrations, and a commemoration of the friendly ties between the two long-time allies. Up to 10 thousand spectators in the stadium and millions more on television screens would be able to watch this landmark match, Kazimi said.

ENDS

KABUL (SW): Efforts are underway to bring Indian football team for a friendly football match against Afghanistan in Kabul.

[84
93
post-83004","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport","tag-english
["GET
