PUL-I-ALAM (SW): At least four Taliban militants on Sunday stormed the Appellate Court in eastern Logar province killing a prosecutor on duty.<\/p>\n
Latest from the scene of fighting suggest two attackers have been killed by the security forces while the rest of two are engaged in the fire fight.<\/p>\n
Salim Saleh, spokesman for the governor, said that the insurgents attacked the court in the provincial capital Pul-i-Alam at around 10 in the morning.<\/p>\n
He said that intense fighting between the security forces and the militants is underway in the area.<\/p>\n
He added that the attackers used the security forces’ uniform to enter the compound.<\/p>\n
The attack took place when nearly 300 tribal elders gathered near the court, which is located next to the governor’s office.<\/p>\n
Saleh said that so far two attackers have been killed and 4 civilians have been injured.<\/p>\n
Salam Watandar’s correspondent said that two heavy explosions were heard near the court and ambulances have arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident but the Taliban are blamed for the move as they have shifted their focus to target judicial institutions following President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s remarks on executing those who are involved in terrorist activities.<\/p>\n
