KUNDUZ CITY (SW): A number of members at Provincial Council in northern Kunduz province have warned that if the government did not conduct military operation in Qala-e-Zaal district, it would soon fall to the militants again.<\/p>\n
The district briefly fell to the Taliban nearly five months ago, but the security forces recaptured it along with the Kunduz City, which had also fallen to the militants.<\/p>\n
Residents in the district said that there has never been a comprehensive military operation against the militants to fully clear the district of the militants since the security forces recaptured it.<\/p>\n

Amruddin Wali, a member at Kunduz Provincial Council, said that 50 percent of the villages in the district are under the militants’ control and if the government did not launch military operation here, it would fall to the Taliban soon.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mahbubullah Sayeedi, District Chief in Qala-e-Zaal, has said that it would be impossible for the Taliban to recapture the district because there would be a wide military operation conducted against them soon. He added that out of 74 villages in the district, 32 have been under Taliban’s control where 300 militants’ fighters are active.<\/p>\n
Taliban took control of Kunduz City for three days after mounting offensives and were soon pushed back by security forces last year.<\/p>\n
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani assigned a commission to probe into the incident and the commissions’ findings were announced five months later that held grey areas in the security responsible for the brief fall.<\/p>\n
