KABUL (SW): Mohammad Hanif Atmar, the National Security Advisor, has held extensive meetings with high ranking officials of Turkmenistan in Asghabat.<\/p>\n
Tawab Gorzang, spokesman for the National Security Council, told Salam Watandar that the role of Turkmenistan is of great importance in terms of peace, stability and development in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
He noted that the Advisor assured Turkmenistan about measures taken by the Afghan government to ensure security at the border between the two countries.<\/p>\n
“Turkmenistan is our brotherly neighbor, we are pursuing a policy to jointly strive for peace and progress in the region”, he said.<\/p>\n

Gorzag stated that among other issues, security for the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI) gas pipeline and other mega projects were also discussed.<\/p>\n
Analysts believe, considering Turkmenistan’s old ties with the Taliban, Asghabat government can play important role towards peace and stability in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
In the opinion of Waheed Mujda, a security affairs’ expert, Turkmenistan has always remained a reliable neighbor for Afghanistan. “The Afghan government seems to be looking for countries besides Pakistan with some clout over the Taliban in a bid to bring them to the negotiation table”, he said.<\/p>\n
