KABUL (SW): Wolesi Jirga (lower house) of the parliament on Monday reaffirmed its opposition towards the President’s 70th decree regarding the extensive stay of interim heads of security-related officials.<\/p>\n
Though the Constitution states that no interim head can stay on his post for more than two months but President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has issued a decree citing sensitive security situation as a reason behind the prolong stay of heads of some security related organs.<\/p>\n
The WJ had earlier rejected this decree but the upper house of the parliament Masharano Jirga approved the decree. Later, a joint commission of the house was formed to formulate a unanimous stand over it but that failed to develop consensus, hence the WJ re-affirmed its stance and again voted against the decree.<\/p>\n
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Speaker of the house urged upon the President to nominate appropriate candidates as Minister of Defense, head of the spy agency NDS and the Attorney General’s Office.<\/p>\n
Also during the plenary session, the MPs raised general public issues such as, low quality of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s weapons, providing passport for civilians in provincial department by the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Transport’s lack of attention for avoiding traffic incidents in highways, wide corruption in the Ministry of Education and increasing lack of security in many provinces.<\/p>\n
