KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Trade and Industries has said that while it was busy settling the issue of soaring gas prices, the rates of petroleum products got swollen. <\/p>\n
Musafar Qoqandi, Spokesman for the MoTI told Salam Watandar that the ministry was working hard in consultation with the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) traders in a bid to bring its price down.<\/p>\n
He added a major reason behind surge in the prices of petroleum products was the depreciation in the value of afghani against the U.S. dollar.<\/p>\n
He however, claimed that the efforts would yield positive impacts in bringing down the prices in few days. He asserted that the MoTI’s vigilant teams were closely monitoring the market and would never allow anyone to manipulate the prices.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that the government has inked two major contracts for the import of some 222 tons of LPG gas from Russia and Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n

Qoqandi said Azerbaijan has already supplied a portion of 150 tons of LPG and the rest would arrive soon. He mentioned that Russia would provide some 72 tons of LPG to Afghanistan in coming days.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that these two deals have been made against lower price in comparison to the past and would eventually help bringing down the prices in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Despite the government regular claims, shortage of the LPG often results in skyrocketing prices, particularly in winters when the demands increase.<\/p>\n
