LASHKARGAH (SW): Ongoing insurgency in southern Helmand province has inflicted heavy damage upon the infrastructure besides the human loss, officials told Salam Watandar.<\/p>\n
Helmand has been witnessing deadly attacks by the militants for quite a while now. Ahllullah Obaidi, Director Helmand Public Welfare Department said in this regard that roads and bridges worth millions of dollars have been damaged due to insurgency.<\/p>\n
He added that the Taliban, in their areas of influence have blown-up a number of bridges and have deliberately eroded roads.<\/p>\n

Obaidi added that the militants have not only damaged a number of roads in Baba Ji and Marja districts but have also eroded a number of connecting roads stretching from the provincial capital Lashkargah to Sangin and Kajaki districts.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that a normal connecting road costs around one million dollars hence the total damage done was in multi million dollars.<\/p>\n
A number of transporters told Salam Watandar that they remain worried while commuting in the province owing to a number of landmines placed by the militants.<\/p>\n
This comes at a time when the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are engaged in intense battles with the rebels in Musa Qala, Sangin, Nawzad, Baba Ji, and Marja districts.<\/p>\n
