Pul-e-Alam(SW): Mohammad Halim Fedyayee, Governor of eastern Logar province, has said that nearly 25 girls’ schools and 3 religious madrasas have been closed in Pul-e-Alam, Baraki Barak, khoshi, and Charkh districts due to the recent insecurities.<\/p>\n
Quoting education officials in Logar, he told Salam Watandar that the militants have warned that if the girls’ schools did not close, they would set the schools on fire.<\/p>\n
Taliban burned down two schools in Pul-e-Alam two months ago.<\/p>\n
He said that he was closely working with religious council, provincial council and civil society to reopen these schools.<\/p>\n
The governor further said that girls’ schools- in addition to the Taliban’s growing threats- also face traditional social challenges as some families don’t allow their daughters to pass the school beyond seven grade in a number of areas.<\/p>\n
Shaima Zargar, Head of Women’s Affairs in the province, confirming the governor’s claims, said that some female students from various parts of the province complained of the Taliban for closing schools for girls.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Daud Ahmadi, Logar Police Chief, told Salam Watandar that he has instructed officials to try their best to reopen girls’ schools in all the villages and districts and ensure the security around teachers, students and schools.<\/p>\n
He added that currently wide operation was underway in restive areas in the province and the closed schools would soon be opened.<\/p>\n
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, visited Logar a week ago where he promised women to pave the way for their education, jobs and ensure their security.
