KABUL(SW): The Attorney General Office has sent a delegation to western Herat province to assess the allegations of women claimed to be raped by prosecutors while in custody.<\/p>\n
Last week, the Civil Society Institution for Justice in Afghanistan (CSIJA), claimed in a report that the prosecutors and local judges have raped 3 out of 10 women who were in custody.<\/p>\n
The report claimed that the same situation was underway in other provinces as well.<\/p>\n
The report also suggested that 9 prosecutors and 6 local judges in Herat, 6 prosecutors and 4 local judges in Badghis were accused of raping women in custody.

Asef Fayaz, an official at the Attorney General Office, told a press conference here in Kabul on Sunday that a delegation of civil and military prosecutors, human rights commission and ministry of women affairs have been sent to Herat to consider the cases.<\/p>\n
He said that if the claims against the judges and prosecutors turned out to be true, it would be a catastrophe and the culprits would be severally punished.<\/p>\n
A week ago, officials at Herat prison termed the allegations made by CSIJA as baseless.<\/p>\n
