KABUL (SW) – Hundreds of Badakhshan residents on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against the closure of electoral offices by the politicians dropped from the list of candidates for the parliamentary polls.<\/p>\n
The protesters stressed the decision by the Independent Election Complaint Commission in this regard should be respect, and those candidates removed from the list on different charges should adopt legal ways and means to present their case instead of closing down the electoral commission offices in different provinces.<\/p>\n
Kaamil Hussaini and Ahmad Mujadadi, two members of the provincial council, urged the government to swiftly reopen the IEC offices in a bid to avoid potential delay in the parliamentary elections. Osama Burhani, a local civil society activist, said on the occasion no one has the right to create hurdles in such a national process. The protesters vowed they would move to reopen the IEC office if the government failed to do so.<\/p>\n
Supporters of Wolesi Jirga member from Badakhshan, Fauzia Kofi, closed down the IEC office here when the IEC removed her and a number of other politicians from the list of candidates on different charges.<\/p>\n
