TAKHAR (SW): In a letter issued by the National Security Prosecutor to the National Directorate of Security of Takhar, it is stated that those who promote ethnic divides in the demonstrations and despise the country’s badges and flag, their actions harm the national security and are against the national security.<\/p>\n
The National Security Prosecutor also wrote that according to Article 256 of the Criminal Code, those who promote religious, racial, ethnic or linguistic divides, or invite others to do so will be sentenced to medium term imprisonment.<\/p>\n
In the letter, it has been said that in recent years there have been activities and protests by some citizens that are unlawful, and such behaviors are punishable after this and will be prevented.<\/p>\n
This letter has been issued to restrict the civil protests, while the constitution of the country states that the protests and civil gatherings are considered rightful acts of citizens.<\/p>\n
Esmat Qurbani, a member of Takhar Provincial Council and a protester against the “Afghan” word on the eNIC said the protest is the public’s right, and the NSP letter is in conflict with the constitution of the country.<\/p>\n
Qurbani added that the prosecutor would offend the public and the people will not be silent about this matter.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Jamshid Rasooli, spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office, in a call with Salam Watandar confirmed the issuance of this letter by the NSP office in Takhar, but said the issuance of this letter was intended to inform the security officials and not to prevent the civil rights and freedoms of citizens.<\/p>\n
According to Rasooli, the Attorney Generals’ office and provincial prosecutors, defend the rights and freedoms of citizens and support the public in using such rights.<\/p>\n
