GHAZNI (SW): Ghazni Provincial Council members expressed their concerns over the nonexistence of voters’ registration centers in the districts of Ghazni and said that if the government neglects this matter, thousands of Ghazni residents will be deprived of participation in the upcoming parliamentary and district council elections.<\/p>\n
Latifa Akbari, the head of Ghazni Provincial Council told Salam Watandar that even the voters’ registration centers in the center of Ghazni are in shortages of materials.<\/p>\n
Akbari added that the process of registration of candidates will begin next week, however, in the districts of Ghazni, the voters’ registration centers have not been established yet.<\/p>\n
Criticizing the government’s negligence in holding the upcoming election properly, Ghulam Sakhi Amar, a member of the Ghazni Provincial Council said that the increased insecurity in Ghazni province has made the public disinterested in participating in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n
Another member of the Ghazni Provincial Council, Hamidullah Sarwari said that even in the center of the province, 15 voters’ registrations have been closed due to security threats.<\/p>\n
Sarwari called on the government to put an end to the problems of the protesters who have been protesting in front of the Independent Election Commission’s office in Ghazni city.<\/p>\n
Officials at the IEC in Ghazni did not comment on this, however, the spokesperson for the governor of Ghazni, Mohammad Arif Noori said that officials from the IEC in Kabul will soon come to Ghazni to solve the problem of the protesters.<\/p>\n
A number of Ghazni residents who demanded the election to be held in zones, have set up a sit-in tent in front of the IEC headquarters in Ghazni 36 days ago and closed the gate of the IEC office.<\/p>\n
Although their demands have been rejected by the central government, the protesters still insist on their demands and have been protesting since then.<\/p>\n
