KABUL (SW): Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock (MAIL) launched the program to promote value chains of wheat and animal husbandry. Officials at the MAIL said that agriculture development and farmers’ access to the domestic and foreign markets are among the main goals of this program.<\/p>\n
Nasir Ahmad Durrani, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, at the launching event of the project for “promoting value chains of wheat, valuable crops, and livestock” for the western zone, said today (Monday), that the program is worth $19 million and will be implemented in Herat, Nimroz, Farah and Badghis provinces.<\/p>\n
Minister Durrani said the program will be funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Durani, the goal of this program is the development of agriculture, processing and packaging of agricultural products, supporting farmers and providing farmers with access to domestic and foreign markets.<\/p>\n

Director of USAID, Herbie Smith said that the program is very important for agriculture and supporting farmers. He assured USAID’s support for Afghanistan in this regard.<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Smith, the project to promote value chains strengthens value chains, entrepreneurship, the private sector, timely and better access of farmers to the markets, and promotion of livestock. It also provides a safe and sustainable food supply for the residents in the western zone.<\/p>\n
According to officials at the 'MAIL', with the implementation of this program, access to markets for farmers and businesses will be enhanced both at the regional and international level.<\/p>\n
