KABUL (SW): The International Labor Day was celebrated by the National Union of Workers and Employees of Afghanistan (“AMKA”) under the name of “Workers’ solidarity” today in Kabul.
Speaking at this event, Marouf Qaderi, head of AMKA said there are plenty of job seekers in the Afghan labor market, however, few lands on jobs.
According to Qaderi, the minimum wage for the Afghan workers has not been set by the government yet. He added that lack of employment opportunities has reduced the wages and salaries.
Qaderi called on the government to preclude the armed groups to recruit the Afghan youth. According to the statistics provided by the AMKA, one-third of the country’s residents are living under the poverty line and most join the armed groups due to economic hardship.
The International Labor Day is being celebrated while more than 24 percent of Afghanistan’s workforce is currently unemployed.
