LASHKARGAH (SW): In restive Helmand province, a group of brave women has united to defend their rights.
Shahnaz Fayez is leading this campaign with her untiring activities for women’s rights in the province. In an exclusive interview with Salam Watandar, Shahnaz said she and her fellow women civil society activists travel door to door in the province to encourage more women for the cause. She informed their group has so far been able to attract up to 100 women to fight in unity for their cause.
In the meantime, Sardar Mohammad Hamdard, head of the Helmand civil society, has welcomed the development. He stressed that the Constitution has allows each and every individual to strive for rights. He hoped joint efforts by women and men would strengthen the civil society movement in the province.
The provincial government has also vowed to support the women activists in their cause. Umar Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor, said in this regard the government is ready and willing to help and support women civil society activists.
Helmand remains one of the restive provinces in the country, where armed insurgency has crippled everyday life in many parts.
