Women should be actively involved in determining their political destiny in Paktia

PAKTIA (SW): A number of Paktia women, who gathered in Gardez, center of the province, to create a women’s network office said although, in the remote areas of Paktia, women still do not have a “National Identity Card -NIC”, however, they want these women to participate in the upcoming elections.  

These women encouraged the Paktia women to get the NIC and enrol to vote in the upcoming elections.

Zarghona Hemmat, director of Women’s Network told Salam Watandar that the purpose of this gathering, in which more than 200 women have participated, was to encourage women to vote in the upcoming elections and chose their political destiny.

Khadija Ahmadi and Zarlasht two of the organizers of this summit called on the men to encourage the women in their families to participate in the upcoming elections. They said that encouragement of the male members of the families has a positive impact on women to get out and get their NIC and enrol in the voters’ registration process.

Women’s participation in the elections in Paktia has been the lowest so far, however at this summit women were called upon to participate in the upcoming elections and break the taboo.  

Officials from the Independent Election Commission’s Provincial Office in Paktia said they expect more women to vote in the upcoming elections in Paktia.
