KABUL (SW): The latest survey by the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) indicates only 10.7 per cent women are taking part in decision making at the public and private levels.
Sher Mohammad Jamizada, acting head of the CSO, said the survey indicated only 10.3 per cent women were active at the decision making levels in the public sector while only 9.6 per cent women were active at the decision making levels in private sector. This ration, however, was much better at 28.3 per cent in the non-government organizations (NGOs). “Women’s decision making powers have slightly gone-up compared to the last year”, added Jamizada.
Spozhmai Wardak, deputy director for the Ministry of Women Affairs (MoWA), said difficult working conditions, lack of skills, and harassment at the work place are the main causes behind inadequate representation of women in decision making positions. “In one decade only 1.7 per cent increase is seen in women’s participation at the decision making levels”, informed Wardak.
