KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani lamented on Monday the dull participation of women in the voter registration drive.
He said this while addressing 5th Afghan Women’s International Symposium at Arg (presidential palace). The president said so far the participation of women in the voter registeration drive is at around 24 per cent, and if it remained like this, it would prove to be a set-back.
Stressing upon the notable representation of women in all walks of life, Ghani pronounced it fundamental for strengthening democracy in the country. He lamented the culture of discrimination against women, and said it does not help in promoting stability in the country.
Concluding his speech, Ghani said political peace might be realized, but sustainable social harmony is not possible without the active role of women and emancipation of all citizens.
