Women join protest by WJ candidates in Takhar

TALUQAN (SW) – A number of women have joined the camp of protesting Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidates in Takhar province.

The protesting women demanded all vote cast without biometric verification should be declared void, and the Independent Election Commission officials in the province should be terminated. Haseena and Maryam, two protesting women, said they want justice for the WJ candidates.

The protest by these candidates has entered 26th day. The agitating candidates have set-up a protest camp in front of the governor house. Due to these protests, provincial branch of the Attorney General Office, directorates for women affairs, finance and education as well as a number of other public offices are closed here.

The agitating protesters have warned to extend their demonstration if their demands are not met. They have also warned to close down Kabul – Badakhshan highway if the government continued to neglect their demands.
