GARDEZ (SW): A number of women in Paktia have called for an exclusive marketplace for them in the province.
According to these women and girls, such an exclusive place would not only enable them shop with ease, but also market their own products in a suitable environment.
Maleha, a resident of the provincial capital Gardez, told Salam Watandar that many families do not allow women and girls to go for shopping as all traders in the city are men. She added a dedicated marketplace for them would end the curbs on their liberty in this regard.
Zarmeena, another Paktia-based woman, said this move would play key role in the economic empowerment of women and girls. She stressed the local female can properly market their handicrafts if an exclusive market is established for them.
Nasrin Oryakhel, head of the directorate of women affairs, said in this regard the idea of an exclusive market for women in Paktia is under consideration. She informed that the market for women in Paktia would be developed next year.
It is worth noticing that there is no exclusive market for women in the whole of southeastern region.
