KHOST CITY (SW): Eager to get educated and serve the nation shoulder to shoulder with the men, women and girls in south eastern Khost province seek education even at evening schools.
Bakhtnor Bakhtyar, director education in Khost told Salam Watandar that although the security problems do bar many not to risk going out in the evening but it could not scare away many girls and women to attend the evening schools.
According to official figures, some 1600 students over the age of 30 attend evening schools in the provincial capital Khost City. Among them around 60 students are female who cannot attend regular school due to their engagements during the day.
Spozmay, a 12th grade student of Khost City told Salam Watandar she and her friends attend the school from 4 pm till evening.
Spozmay added that due to her job at a private firm during the day, it was only possible to continue with the studies in the evening.
Compelled by economic constrains in the family to abandon regular school, Spozmay says she is now happy to have access to the evening school.
This 12th grade student stressed that if the Ministry of Education pays further attention towards evening schools and equip them with modern tools and knowledge, many people would benefit.
Wazira Sadat, a female teacher at the Khost evening school also emphasized that the authorities should take the fact into consideration that many middle age people, men and women, can only be educated via evening schools since many of them remain busy in jobs or at home during the day.
She regretted that many of her suggestions about providing books and other resources have not been conceived by the authorities.
Najibulla Ahmadzai, principle of the evening school in Khost city said in this regard that he would try his level best to keep pushing the higher-ups.
The Khost Governor said that the school`s classes do not have ceil and the student study in under warm weather in a without roof class.
Hakeem Khan Habibi, Governor Khost told Salam Watandar that the province has to go a long way to improve the literacy level in this part of the country.
He noted that many schools in Khost still lack a proper building and the students are compelled to study under open sky.
Official figures suggest some 330, 000 students are enrolled in Khost province some 100, 000 of whom are female.
