HELMAND (SW): Dozens of women in Helmand set up a sit-in camp alongside the men to protest the violence, after a deadly suicide car explosion near Ayub Khan Stadium in Lashkar Gah city on Saturday evening killing 16 people and injuring more than 50 others.
They called on the Taliban to stop the killing of civilians and join the peace process. Families of the victims were also among these women.
In a conversation with Salam Watandar, one of these women called on Taliban to “avoid the war and join the peace process”. “You are from this country and should not kill your own fellow citizens”, she asked the Taliban.
A few days ago, a number of the Helmand youths organized a sit-in camp to protest the recent deadly attack. They said that they will visit the Taliban fighters in the province to carry a message of peace to the group.
Today (Tuesday), a number of youths rallied in the city and in some of the Helmand districts. They chanted the slogans of peace. The youths’ Peace Convoy will visit Taliban strongholds on Thursday to carry a message of peace to the group.
