KABUL (SW) – The maiden gathering of the National Women Consensus under the label of ‘Stop the War’ has called on the warring sides in Afghanistan to ceasefire.
At this gathering here on Thursday, participants announced local peace committees of women have been formed in all 34 provinces to develop consensus. A declaration issued at the end, the NWC called for measures to support peace in the country. It also urged the government to end the culture of impunity, and to hold all outlawed armed gangs accountable.
Addressing the gathering, First Lady Rula Ghani, said women are the victims of war, and they long for peace in the country.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said on the occasion efforts are underway to broadly implement the law, and put an end to the misuse of power in the country. He underlined the role of women for peace building in Afghanistan.
