“Women are unwise, never seek an advice from them”

09/12/2017

KABUL (SW): Naheed, a private university student: Most of my male classmates were ill-mannered, and used to crack unnecessary jokes inside and out of the classroom while staring at the girls all the time.

We, the girls, were literally deprived of independently speaking our minds out due to fear of unwarranted reaction from the boys. There wasn’t any sort of peace. I was never motivated to go to the university any morning. Though, some teachers were behaving professionally with these boys, but others never minded indulging in loose talk with the students.

On one such day, a teacher who claimed to have plenty of knowledge on Islamic Studies, turned to the students in a rather lighter tone to say: “Boys! Women are unwise, never seek an advice from them”. Boys cheered upon these words by the teacher, but it was a setback for us girls.

The girls looked at each other, but could not dare to say something. I gathered courage, and told the teacher: “Sir! You should not have such thoughts about women, these words of yours are absolutely incorrect”.

With a cunning smile, the teacher replied: “Look girl, these are not my words, but by the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).” In response, I chose to stay mum in a bid to avoid any backlash from the boys and the teacher. As usual, the girls lowered their heads, and the boys burst into a laughter.
