KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday approved Child Protection bill that was initially tabled two years ago.
Since the bill was tabled in 2017, the determination of the legal age of a child remained a thorny issue among the parliamentarians. In today’s session, the house finally adopted the Bill declaring 18 years as the legal age of a child.
The Child Protection bill comprises of 16 Chapters and 108 Articles. It covers diverse issues ranging from the children’s basic rights, social considerations, cultural growth to safety from child labor, trafficking and sexual exploitation etc.
The Arg, presidential palace, has welcomed ratification of the Bill by the WJ.
