KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday pronounced the civilian casualties caused by a U.S. air raid in Kunduz as a ‘criminal’ incident.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has already confirmed civilian casualties in a security operation in the Chahar Dara district of the province. Couple of days ago, the MoD noted that a delegation to probe the incident has been dispatched for Kunduz. It acknowledged ten civilians are among the casualties.
Taking part in debate on this incident at the WJ, Abdul Satar Khwasi and Mawlawi Ahmadullah Mohid, two MPs, said the casualties are higher than what has been reported. They stressed the civilian population is caught between the Taliban and such ‘criminal neglect’ on the part of the officials resulting in the deadly U.S. air raids. The MPs said such incidents are resulting in the people losing confidence in the government.
Condemning the air raid in Kunduz, speaker of the house Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi urged the government to make sure such incidents are not repeated. The house had summoned ministers for interior and defense as well as the director of the National Directorate of Security, but none of them appeared resulting in angry outburst from the MPs.
