KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Wednesday warned those ministers who end-up spending less than 80 percent of their budgets.
Amir Khanyar, Head of Financial and Budget Affairs Commission of the Wolesi Jirga, said during the session today that a number of parliamentarians held a meeting with the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani last night. He added that the President has asked the WJ to summon those ministers who spend less than 80 percent of their budgets.
He noted that the Ministry of Water and Energy, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Ministry of Publich Health and the Ministry of Agriculture have not spent their budgets properly so far. He lamented that so far only 20 percent of the development budget has been spent.
Meanwhile Qader Zazai, another member of the Budget and Finance Affairs Commission at the WJ, said that this move would speed up the process of accountability.
