FARAH CITY (SW): Sarwar Osmani Farahi, head of judicial committee of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) has blamed the provincial government in Farah for embezzlement.
This comes as a 9 member delegation from the house visited Farah last month. According to the committee, at least 7 million dollars are embezzled by the Farah governor and custom authorities in the province. On top of misappropriation of custom revenues, the governor and other authorities have also paid to the Taliban militants, Farahi claimed.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Naser Mehri, spokesman for the provincial governor in Farah, and Atiqullah Aman, head of customs in Farah, have rejected the allegations. “One thing is clear that we have collected more revenue this year than last year, which proves that there is no corruption”, Aman said.
Previously, similar allegations of wide spread administrative corruption were raised by civil society activists and local businessmen in the province.
