WJ rocked with allegations of corruption

KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Monday expressed annoyance towards some of their fellow members for striking hidden deals with those officials called to the house for explanation.

Abdul Raheem Ayubi, a parliamentarian from southern Kandahar province said the fact that a number of ministers called for the sake of accountability get away with it proves some MPs secretly support them. Without naming the individuals, he said some members of the house even get payment from such ministers.

Uproar erupted in the house following his remarks. Ayubi was criticized for defaming the house.

Hafizullah Mansour, another MP said on the occasion that this was not the first time such allegations have been leveled. He urged Ayubi to reveal with evidence those involved in corruption.

He too affirmed that some MPs do take money for being soft on the officials called by the house for clarification over sensitive issues.

The house urged Abdul Raheem Ayubi to bring proof in the next session to back his claims.

The matter was also raised by the former Finance Minister Hazrat Ummer Zakhailwal, who claimed some MPs asked him to pay them while he was asked by the house over charges of violating the rules.
