KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday rejected allegations of human rights violations levelled by the Human Rights Watch against defense minister, Assadullah Khalid.
Addressing the session, speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said enemies want to defame national figures in Afghanistan for their own political aims. He said the house condemns such a report against the interim minister for defense. The speaker stressed such reports cannot deter the minister or the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Obaidullah Barakzai, member of the house, said this report is unjust, and claimed those committed to national interests in Afghanistan are always framed negatively on one pretext or the other. Barakzai said many individuals have committed gross human rights violations during the past four decades, but no one has raised voice against them.
The MP vowed the entire nation except a few hundred people, Pakistan and Iran is standing behind the defense minister Assadullah Khalid, and minister for interior affairs, Amrullah Saleh.
A day earlier, the Mesharano Jirga (upper house) rejected the HRW report. The Human Rights Watch has blamed Khalid for human rights violations.
