KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday denounced claims made by Pakistan’s Foreign Office about hideouts of the Haqqani Network and other terrorists groups allegedly inside Afghanistan.

Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, strongly rejected this claim, and added that Pakistan eyes its strategic gains in Afghanistan with such baseless allegations. He demanded Pakistan to bring an end to the blame game, and play its due role in curtailing terrorists. Parliamentarians urged the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to take notice of such accusations.

Nazifa Zaki, a female member of the house, said Pakistan has long been providing safe sanctuaries to the Taliban and the Haqqani Network, and using them against Afghanistan. Nadir Khan, another member of the house, said on the occasion that the world knows the Taliban’s Queeta Shura and Peshawar Shura are based in Pakistan. He urged upon the government to take firm stand against the allegations levelled by Pakistan.

The house also criticized proposal about joint military operations on both sides of the Durand Line with Pakistan. The house also denounced Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s remarks in which he criticized construction of dams in Afghanistan.
